Melissa Warner, MA Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor
Welcome! My name is Melissa Warner and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor here at Stenzel Clinical Services. It is my passion to come alongside people from all walks of life who are in need of support and guidance through their most difficult times. I enjoy working with children as young as two-years-old, pre-teens, teens, and adults. When your life has been disrupted by a significant transition, loss, or trauma, it can be hard to know what to do next. You are not alone! At the start of your journey with me, I will get to know you, hear your story, and create a plan with you for your emotional healing.
When I work with children and adolescents, I use my special training in research-based play therapy and sandtray therapy to effectively meet each person at their developmental level. I am also trained in principles of Theraplay ®, a special therapy that helps with disrupted attachment to a significant care-giver such as children who have been adopted. I find that experiential therapies are the best way to connect with kids, and they have also shown to be effective in helping adults!
I have a special interest in working with cross-cultural families and Cross-Cultural-Kids (CCKs) or Third-Culture-Kids (TCKs). I am a TCK myself having grown up in Ukraine and Austria. I welcome families from all cultural backgrounds, and I am committed to understanding and learning from your culture.
My educational background includes a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Northwestern St Paul with a minor in Biology. I received my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wheaton College Graduate School. I want to use all that I have learned to help you restore the parts of your story that feel broken and empower you with new skills and perspective to see hope for the future.
