Hello! Welcome to Stenzel Clinical Services! My name is Eric Hoyme and I am a trauma specialist. Though new to Stenzel, I have been practicing psychotherapy for 15 years and have worked in psychiatric hospitals, substance abuse treatment centers, and private practice.
I hold the following degrees, certifications, and licenses:
- Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Illinois, 2020
- Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina, 2015
- Certified Therapist in EMDR (certification through EMDRIA), 2014
- Certificate in Clinical Military Counseling (East Carolina University), 2017
- MA in Marriage & Family Therapy (Richmont Graduate University), 2006
I am an EMDR Therapy specialist. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy is a gold standard treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) that was developed in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. It involves attending to both the past and the present in order to resolve problematic emotions. Unlike other prominent therapies for PTSD, EMDR Therapy does not require writing or rehearsing a trauma narrative. Instead, the target memory is desensitized using a technique called bilateral stimulation, which triggers the information processing systems of the brain.
Practicing psychotherapy is my calling. I consider it a gift and privilege to work along side you to facilitate growth and healing! And while it can feel overwhelming to get started addressing long-standing hurts and disappointments, taking this leap can be a life-changing decision. Take courage! You can overcome!
When choosing a therapist, it is important to consider their Areas of Practice.
