Hi, I’m Sophia. I know reaching out for counseling can feel intimidating, and finding the right counselor can sometimes feel overwhelming. My hope is that counseling can be a space where you feel comfortable being yourself and less alone in what you are going through. I provide a warm, relational, and supportive space where you can better understand yourself, make sense of your experiences, and recognize and build on the strengths you already have.
Before entering the counseling field, I spent many years working in education as both a general and special education teacher in the United States and Korea. Through that experience, I worked closely with children, adolescents, and families navigating challenges related to emotional regulation, learning differences, school stress, self-esteem, behavioral concerns, and life transitions. These experiences also helped me recognize the importance of working with families and supporting the emotional and relational well-being of the whole person, not just the challenges visible on the surface. I also have experience facilitating executive functioning parent groups and supporting families navigating ADHD, learning differences, and everyday or school-related challenges.
Having lived across different cultures and countries, I recognize how cultural adjustment, identity, relationships, and life transitions can impact emotional well-being, and I value supporting individuals navigating these experiences with compassion and care.
My approach to counseling is compassionate, relational, and trauma-informed. I am currently completing my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Wheaton College, and I would be honored to walk alongside you in your journey.
