Before You Schedule

You don’t need to have everything figured out before contacting Stenzel Clinical Services. Questions about choosing a therapist, paying for sessions, and what counseling involves are a reasonable place to start.

These answers can help you prepare. For details about your therapist, appointment, or insurance plan, contact our team before scheduling.

Start with our therapist directory. Consider the concerns you want to discuss, whom counseling is for, and your preferences for location or appointment times.

If you are unsure where to begin, tell our team what prompted you to reach out. You can ask about therapist options and current availability without knowing the name of a treatment approach.

Our published fees are $180 for an initial counseling session, $150 for each additional individual session, and $150 for a family session.

Confirm the fee for your selected therapist and appointment type before booking. If you use insurance, your share of the cost depends on your benefits. See our Fees & Insurance page for more information.

Stenzel lists Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, United Behavioral Health / Optum, Aetna, and Cigna as in-network insurance plans.

Confirm that your specific plan and selected therapist are in network. Ask about your deductible, copayment or coinsurance, and whether the service you need is covered. Our insurance specialists can help you understand your behavioral health benefits.

If your plan is not listed, contact us to discuss possible billing arrangements. Submitting a claim does not guarantee coverage or reimbursement.

Appointment times vary by therapist. Ask about current daytime, evening, or weekend availability and explain any scheduling limits you have.

Confirm a specific appointment time with our team rather than assuming that every therapist offers the same hours.

The first session gives your therapist a starting point for understanding your concerns, history, and what you hope to change. It is also a chance to ask about their approach and discuss next steps.

Once you have scheduled, you will receive a patient portal link. Please complete your intake forms before the appointment. Our First Visit page explains how to prepare.

There is no single timeline that fits everyone. Discuss your goals, appointment frequency, and expectations with your therapist.

You can also ask how you will review progress together and decide whether to continue, adjust your approach, or conclude sessions. You do not need to predict the full course of counseling before your first conversation.

Bring that question to your therapist. Explain what you hope would change, what you have tried before, and any concerns about starting.

Ask how their approach relates to your needs and how you would assess progress. Outcomes vary, and improvement should not be promised simply because someone attends or puts in effort.

Stenzel offers online counseling in Illinois. Ask about your therapist’s availability, whether video appointments are appropriate for your care, and any insurance requirements.

If you will be physically outside Illinois for an appointment, confirm arrangements with your therapist in advance.

Call (630) 588-0028. Stenzel requires at least 24 hours’ notice of cancellation to avoid the $150 fee. Missed appointments are also subject to this fee.

Review our office policies before your appointment and ask about anything that is unclear.
