We encourage all people suffering from chemical addictions to first seek in-patient treatment to detox and get hands-on care. We are happy to help once you’re released. We specialize in working on the issues beneath the surface that prevented you from staying sober in the past. We want to help you process and heal.
A process addiction is an addiction to a behavior that you cannot stop. Gambling, over-eating, sex, pornography and shopping are some of the more prevalent process addictions. Participating in these behaviors doesn’t necessarily make you an addict. However, if you are turning to these things to cope with anxiety or depression, and if you cannot stop even though you have tried, then you may have a process addiction.
Many people, both men and women, suffer from sex and pornography addiction. In fact, 6 to 8 percent of all Americans can be classified as addicted to sex, according to the National Council on Sexual Addiction Compulsivity. While having sex or viewing pornography doesn’t automatically make you an addict, many people use them to help cope with anxiety, depression and other mental health issues. Due to the chemicals produced in your brain from the thrill, this could actually be as addicting as a chemical dependence.
At Stenzel Clinical, we help treat process addictions similarly to chemical addictions. We will provide tools to help you stop the behaviors, as well as assistance with finding the root cause of your addiction so it can be healed.
We are here for you.
We understand that there is great shame in having a process addiction. You may have been frustrated with yourself for not being able to “just stop.” Please know that it is more than that, and you need help. We are here for you.
